Ramadan and the Accountability of the Soul
The Beginning:
The historian writes that whenever a nation disciplined the appetites of the flesh, the wings of its soul found the strength to soar. Fasting is not merely the name of hunger and thirst; it is a divine exercise designed to remind this mortal frame of clay that it is not a slave to its instincts, but their master. The entire universe operates under a celestial discipline (Discipline), and Ramadan invites us to align our existence with that very order.
Ramadan 2026 dawns upon an era where humanity has become a prisoner within the fortress of its own desires. 'Modesty' (Haya) and 'Ethics,' which were once the jewels of a believer, are now being sacrificed at the altar of convenience. Fasting teaches us a logical and spiritual lesson: if we can abandon even 'Halal' sustenance for a specific duration at the command of Allah, why is it deemed impossible to abandon 'Haram' forever? The ultimate proof of Faith is for a servant to sacrifice their ego and worldly pleasures for the pleasure of the Creator. This is the 'Taqwa' (God-consciousness) that forms the foundation of success in the Afterlife.
Observe the hypocrisy of the heralds of modernity and the liberal elite; they promote 'Intermittent Fasting' as an indispensable miracle for physical health, yet when the same act manifests as 'Ramadan'—a spiritual and faith-driven obligation—they attempt to label it as "obsolete traditionalism" or a "violation of human comfort." This double standard reflects a deep-seated fear: if Muslims truly awaken their souls, the idols of materialism will crumble. The West seeks to turn us into mere 'Consumers,' while Islam seeks to elevate us to the status of 'Servants' (Abd).
The moments of Suhoor and Iftar are not just the decorations of a dining table; they are the rains of Mercy falling upon the barren lands of the heart. When the throat is parched with thirst and cold water sits within reach, the hand that does not move is a witness that the presence of Allah is alive within that heart. This very consciousness transforms an individual into a person of integrity (Moatabar)—one who neither usurps the rights of others nor transgresses their own boundaries.
Ramadan 2026 is our golden opportunity to recalibrate our fragmented lives—our Time, Diet, Sleep, and Screen Management. This month calls us out from the digital noise and into the sanctuary of prayerful silence. Let us listen to the knock of our conscience and return to Allah before the string of our breaths is severed. True success is not found in worldly glory, but in that radiant moment when the Book of Deeds is placed in our right hand.
